# Allowances and errors

Library docs calls are metered per team, per calendar month (UTC). Per-seat plans pool the allowance across the team: the figure is per seat, times the seats on the plan.

| Plan | Library docs calls a month |
|---|---|
| Free | 2,000 |
| Pro | 10,000 |
| Team | 10,000 a seat, pooled |
| Business | 20,000 a seat, pooled |
| Enterprise | unmetered |

A **query**, an **index** (including a refresh) and a **private docs** upload each count as one call. Reading usage, the library list, the dependency view and pins is free, and so is `--dry-run`. The scheduled freshness job is not charged to any team.

```sh
overlane docs usage
```

## Errors

| Code | HTTP | CLI exit code | Meaning and next step |
|---|---|---|---|
| `docs_allowance_exceeded` | 429 | 6 | The month's allowance is used up, or the team started more than 20 index jobs in an hour. Run `overlane docs usage`. |
| `library_not_found` | 404 | 4 | No official docs source was found. Give one with `--source-url` and `--version`. |
| `source_blocked` | 400 | 6 | The given `--source-url` is not a public HTTPS address. |
| `invalid_request` | 400 | 2 | A field is missing or malformed, or a private page contains a credential. |

A refused call returns the same body over HTTP and from the MCP tool: `{"error": {"code": "docs_allowance_exceeded", "message": "...", "hint": "overlane docs usage"}}`. The exit codes are the CLI's stable exit codes, listed in the [CLI reference](/cli/).
