# Library docs

Library docs give your agents the documentation of the libraries in your project. An agent asks a question about a library; the service answers with snippets from the library's official docs, each carrying its **source URL, version and fetch date**. A library nobody has asked about yet is fetched and indexed on the spot, and the index is shared by every team for public libraries.

An agent does everything here on its own: it [reads the project's lockfiles to pin versions](/library-docs/version-pinning/), [queries and indexes libraries](/library-docs/using-docs/), [adds the team's own docs](/library-docs/private-docs/) and keeps indexes fresh. Nothing waits on a person. A person can run the same commands as an override.

This page is about the library docs service. Overlane's own documentation, the site you are reading, is called Docs.

```sh
overlane docs pins --project prj_1
overlane docs query acme-widgets "how do I create a widget" --project prj_1
overlane docs deps --project prj_1 --index-missing
