# Notifications and the inbox

The **Inbox** collects what needs you: failed pipelines and deploys, approvals waiting for an answer, alerts and agent runs that stopped on an error. Settings, under Workspace, decides which of them reach you. The choice is yours alone: it applies to you in this workspace and to nobody else.

## The events

| Event | When it is sent |
| --- | --- |
| Pipeline run failed | A CI run ended in failure |
| Deploy failed | A deploy did not complete |
| Deploy rolled back | A deploy was rolled back |
| Approval requested | An agent or bot is waiting for an answer |
| Alert fired | One of your [alert rules](/observability/alerts/) matched |
| Agent run stopped with an error | A connected agent's run ended on an error |
| Morning report | The daily report of what was accepted, handed off, held and used |
| Repository import finished | An import from GitHub completed |

## Choose how each event reaches you

For each event pick one of three choices: **In the app**, **In the app and by email**, or **Not at all**. Every event starts as **In the app**. Changes save as you pick them.

```sh
overlane inbox preferences
overlane inbox preferences set --set ci_failed=email --set digest=none
```

## Work through the inbox

Open an item to see its next action. Mark one item or everything as read, or snooze an item for an hour, until tomorrow morning or until next week. The same actions are in the CLI.

```sh
overlane inbox list
overlane inbox read ITEM_ID
overlane inbox read-all
overlane inbox snooze ITEM_ID --until 2026-10-29T09:00:00+08:00
```

Command reference: [inbox list](/cli/inbox-list/), [inbox read](/cli/inbox-read/), [inbox read-all](/cli/inbox-read-all/), [inbox snooze](/cli/inbox-snooze/), [inbox preferences](/cli/inbox-preferences/) and [inbox preferences set](/cli/inbox-preferences-set/).

## Import progress

When you connect a GitHub repository, Overlane brings it over in the background, one step per kind of thing, in this order: labels, milestones, issues, pull requests and reviews, issue and pull request comments, releases and tags, branches, commit history, workflow runs, the code map and the project wiki. While the import runs, the Inbox shows a panel for the repository with how many steps are done, a progress bar for the running step and the time left, measured from its real rate. The panel stays after the import with the steps finished, and a "Repository import finished" item reaches you as set above. Nothing shows when nothing has run lately.
